About The Fox Theatre Redwood City

The Fox Theatre Redwood City, California was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. The Fox Theatre was formerly known as the New Sequoia Theater and it opened its door to the public on January 2, 1929, to display motion pictures.
Consequently, the theater was then purchased by the Fox West Coast Chain, a few months after its opening and it continued to be used for movie displays and special attractions. However, after some years, the theatre was closed for renovations for about 4 months before re-opening its doors September 1950 for live performances and shows.

After reopening its gates, the theater became a popular venue for artists such as Etta James, Bill Cosby, Neil Young, Vanessa Williams, to mention but a few. However, in 2009 the famous theater went into foreclosure due to unpaid taxes and mortgage bills. Then the Coast Capital Income Fund, which was one of the creditors, resorted to auctioning off the property in October 2009. In the Summer of 2010, the Fox Theatre Redwood City was purchased by two local entrepreneurs, Eric Lochtefeld and Lori Lochtefeld, along with Eric’s Dream Careers Inc. Company. After the purchase, it was reopened in September of 2010.
This legendary Theatre offers so much history and excitement to whoever visits. It’s 1,300 capacity crowd is entertained by a variety of musical, comedy, and stage acts throughout the year. The Fox Theatre can also be rented for parties and special events.
